BASIC FIRST AID




For the purposes of this program, basic first aid is defined as assessments and interventions that can be performed by a bystander (or by the victim) with minimal or no mdical equipment. A first aid provider is defined as someone with formal training infirst aid.

Intended Audience: Individuals who require or desire elementary first aid knowledge and skills; including emergency response teams in business and industry, school bus drivers, adult residential care personnel, child care workers, teachers, parents and babysitters.

Prerequisites: None (CPR and AED recommended)

Basic Adult First Aid: 4 Hours - $75

Basic Pediatric First Aid: 4 Hours - $75

Universal (Adult and Pediatric) First Aid: 5 Hours - $85

Upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to:

Describe the legal aspects of providing first aid
Explain the importance of universal precautions
Describe how and when to perform an emergency move
Describe the emergency action steps for an unresponsive and responsive victim
Explain how to place an unresponsive, breathing victim in a recovery position
Describe the signs and symptoms and first aid for severe bleeding and shock
Describe the signs and symptoms and first aid for burns
Describe the signs and symptoms and first aid for injuries to a limb
Explain when to perform simple spinal motion restriction
Describe the signs and symptoms of asthma and how to assist the victim with his or her prescribed medication
Describe the signs and symptoms of severe allergic reaction/anaphylaxis and how to assist the victim with his
or her prescribed medication
Describe the signs and symptoms and first aid for poisoning
Describe the signs and symptoms and first aid for heat-related illness and injury
Describe the signs and symptoms and first aid for cold-related illness and injury

A Basic First Aid Certification Card will be issued upon successful completion of the course
