Kokushi Martial Arts

Programs For Children, Teens, & Adults

These traditional Japanese Martial Arts are designed to develop confidence, discipline, self-esteem, focus, physical fitness, and a positive attitude, in addition to providing excellent training in self-defense.

KOKUSHIRYU JUJUTSU - This educational system and lifetime sport, created by Professor N. Higashi, is derived from the fighting style of the ancient Samurai warriors. The "mother" of Japanese martial arts, jujutsu consists of punches, blocks, kicks, throws, chokes, holds, grappling, and joint techniques. Benefits include improved coordination and focus, as well as the development of strength and body fitness. In addition, younger students learn discipline, respect, and how to work with others, while developing self-esteem and confidence.

KOKUSHI KARATE - This system is an excellent means of physical conditioning and includes punches, blocks, and kicks. It builds strength, develops flexibility, and improves coordination and balance. Students learn discipline and how to focus their attention, providing confidence and self-esteem.

JUDO - Originally established as a martial art activity for practising mobility-related skills, self-confidence, self-discipline and independence, it was gradually established at a competitive level. The sport includes throwing techniques, ground fighting including hold downs (pins), chokes, and arm locks. It promotes strength, aerobic conditioning, flexibility, agility, and balance.

TOMIKI AIKIDO - This style of self-defense specializes in joint techniques and throws. Aikido is based on the coordination of one's body rhythm and movements with those of an opponent.

ADULT SELF-DEFENSE - A practical self-defense course incorporating techniques from jujutsu, karate, judo, and aikido. The course is designed to provide a basic understanding of "street" survival skills. The course was written up in New York Magazine as one of the 10 best in NYC.
